North Glasgow HLC and Glasgow City Council's Community Action Team worked in partnership to engage youths and parents in the forthcoming Special Olympics.

Special Olympics Great Britain National Games are held every 4 years and Glasgow hosted the 7th Games from 1st to 9th July 2005. Over the 8 days the athletes competed in 23 sports at 11 venues in and around the City of Glasgow. These included Scotstoun Leisure Centre, Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena, Glasgow Green, Strathclyde Park and Langlands Golf Course.

Special Olympics believe that through regular sports training and competition, people with a learning disability benefit physically, mentally and socially. North Glasgow HLC and the CAT involved pupils from 6 Special Educational Needs Schools in the North Glasgow area in the Special Olympics programme; 4 primary schools and 2 schools with an intake up to and including secondary school age.

As well as taking part in various physical activities, pupils from St. Joan of Arc, Greenview, Rosevale, St. Kevins, Gadburn and Milton School (through the Milton DASH Club), designed banners to publicise the games and encourage youngsters and parents to support the Special Olympics. Once designed, the banners were  professionally produced and displayed in the Games Village based at Scotstoun for the duration of the Special Olympics.
