Fun in the Park

Around 6000 people flocked to Springburn Park on Saturday for Fun in the Park. Organisers reckon this year’s family event was the biggest ever. The line-up included mountain biking, skateboarding, football and basketball coaching, a dog display, climbing wall, face painting and much more.

The event was hosted by North Glasgow Healthy Living Community (HLC). Tom Bennett of Friends of Springburn Park, who supported the event, said: “I think the number of people attending doubled since last year. It was fantastic and everyone really enjoyed themselves.

“All the activities proved to be a big success and we hope to organise it all again next year.”

The event also coincided with the official opening of Springburn Rockery, which has been given a £50,000 revamp, after parts were damaged by vandals.

The rockery has been dedicated to the late Tom Weir – climber, writer and broadcaster – who grew up in Springburn.

Mr Bennett added: “We want to have the rockery dedicated to Tom Weir, who was born just across the road from the park and enjoyed walking there. We plan to put an arch over the gate with Tom’s name on it”.
