Get Ready North Glasgow!

Sunday April 20th
Ruchill Park at 9:30am
Fun Run starts at 10:00am
FREE ENTRY

Nearly 2000 fun runners took to the streets of North Glasgow last April in what turned out to be the biggest ng5k yet! Friends, families, neighbours & work colleagues came together on the day to cheer each other on with much laughter along the way. Back for its third year, ng5k returns for 2008 and promises to be bigger than ever!

ng5k
ng5k is all about promoting physical activity and a healthier lifestyle for residents living and working in North Glasgow as well as offering a great fun day out. What makes the ng5k unique is that it is one of only a few running events in Glasgow that is truly open to all ,where people of all ages and all levels of fitness or ability can take part. Whether you're a regular pavement pounder, a complete novice or someone whose trainers are gathering dust in a wardrobe, ng5k offers something for everyone!

ng5k participants can choose how they want to complete the route whether they run, jog, walk, take part by wheelchair, or push the kids along in their buggy – the real emphasis is on taking part and having a good time!

Fun runners last year joined forces to register as part of organised groups or teams through their workplace, their local primary school, their family & friends and the streets where they live. Last years' entrants also used the event to raise nearly £3000 for local groups & charities including Cancer Research, The British Heart Foundation, Yorkhill Hospital, Anam Cara, and Alzheimer Scotland. Furthermore, feedback has shown that some participants use ng5k as part of their training for other running events in the city such as the Glasgow 10K or Great Scottish Run and for one enthusiast; The New York Marathon!

REGISTRATION
Registration for ng5k 2008 is easy! On-line registration is now open at www.healthynorthglasgow.co.uk and registration forms will also be available at various community outlets across North Glasgow. Please remember that there will be no registration on the day so be sure to sign up today to avoid disappointment! Everyone taking part will receive their very own ng5k t-shirt and winner’s medal.

GET READY!
The ‘ng5k Warm Up’ led by students from North Glasgow College kicks off at 9:30am, ensuring everyone is geared up and ready to go in time for the main event itself at 10am. The event will be at full capacity this year with an estimated 2,500 entrants expected on the day. The route will once again take participants along the roads surrounding Ruchill Park with plenty of on route entertainment to help keep the fun runners in high spirits!

ng5k is also home to the ‘Health & Wellbeing Village’ hosted by a wide range of local health organisations and community groups who will be on hand to offer participants free advice, information as well as the opportunity to sample free 'taster' sessions in sports massage, delicious fruit smoothies and free healthy recipes to take away.
In the running for this year’s Flourish Award, newly improved Ruchill Park will be showcasing its beautiful ponds, gardens and brand new play area to the public for the first time. A whole host of other free fun activities and attractions are planned inside the park from 9am till 1pm to keep the crowds entertained.
